Aftermarket Nissan Frontier 2010-2021 Bumper Kits
For the budget-minded pickup truck owner, the Nissan Frontier is hard to beat. The long-running model, which dates back to 1997, has continued to evolve over the past decade, offering buyers a reliable, affordable, and versatile entry into the mid-size pickup truck class. Here we take a closer look at the Nissan Frontier from 2010 to 2021, highlighting the updates and improvements made over the years.
The 2010 Frontier was the first major redesign of the model since its introduction 13 years earlier. This version of the Frontier had a much more rugged and modern exterior style, with a larger grille, revised headlights, and a more aggressive stance. Inside the cabin, upgraded materials and a new center console added to the comfort and convenience. On the performance side, two engines were available: a 152 horsepower 2.5-L four-cylinder and a 261 horsepower 4.0-L V6.
In 2012, Nissan gave the Frontier an upgrade in engine technology with the addition of a 261-horsepower 4.0-L DOHC V6. This engine was mated to a five-speed automatic transmission, and it provided increased power and fuel efficiency over the previous 4.0-L V6. Other features on the 2012 Frontier included larger brakes, revised spring rates, improved electric power steering, and a beefed-up suspension.
The 2014 Frontier saw a few minor changes, including a revised front grille and trim, along with newly designed 17-inch alloy wheels. The current version of the Frontier also offers increased safety with standard electronics such as traction control, stability control, and an anti-lock braking system.
In 2016, Nissan rolled out the first Frontier Pro-4X model, which added a host of off-road specific features. For the first time, buyers could option their Frontier with heavy-duty Bilstein shocks, 17-inch alloy wheels, skid plates, fog lights, and other performance-oriented goodies.
For 2017, the Frontier underwent a slight facelift but there weren’t any major changes to the powertrain lineup. The only significant update was the addition of a six-speed manual transmission option for the Frontier Pro-4X.
In 2018, Nissan launched the second-generation Frontier, with a new design inside and out. It also featured a new V6 engine, with a displacement of 3.8-L and a power output of 310 horsepower. The updated interior was more modern and tech-savvy, with the addition of a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and now standard Bluetooth.
For 2021, the Frontier saw a few updates, including a redesigned grille, revised hood, and restyled headlights. The 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is also replaced with a new 9.0-inch system. Additionally, the 2021 Frontier now comes standard with Nissan Safety Shield 360, which boosts the Frontier’s active safety features.
Overall, the Nissan Frontier has proven to be a popular choice among mid-size pickup truck buyers. With its rugged styling, reliable powertrain options, and comfortable interior, the Frontier has everything most owners could want. Despite some minor tweaks and updates to the exterior styling over the years, the Frontier has remained largely unchanged since 2010, which is testament to the model’s popularity and longevity.
